@weirdsci No. The iPad is read only.

if you are still lookiing for an ipad, have a look at our vids;
its been working quite well

terrywhitetechblog May 1, 2010 at 4:44 am

@weirdsci importing only at this point and even if you connect a hard drive the iPad doesn’t know what to do with it unless it sees a DCIM folder for importing images.

weirdsci May 1, 2010 at 5:03 am

Can a USB hard drive be connected? And can images/video be exported out to SD?

apple just hates flash lol……….also dose the kit work whit the ipod touch?

terrywhitetechblog May 1, 2010 at 6:11 am

@chmoss You transfer the contents back you computer via iTunes or anything else that can see the iPad as a “camera” including Lightroom!
Thanks!

chmoss May 1, 2010 at 6:40 am

Thanks – very nice review. It think I now must buy an iPad.
A question – how do you get the files off the iPad into Lightroom or whatever? I can sync photos on my iPone – is it the same mechanism? Do the NEFs and movies transfer to a computer easily?

Cool review! How long does it takes to transfer 1gb of raw files (12mp- Nikon D300), from CF via card reader?
Thanks!

Great review Terry. Just a question concerning the USB connector. You showed a method of importing pictures from a flash card using a card reader. I was hoping for something like that, however, my camera uses a sony memory stick and I use a USB card reader WITHOUT a cable to connect the memory stick with my macbook. Would a USB card reader work directly with this device?

Can you post a video of your successful transfer of 720p video from your nikon when you get a chance? Thanks!

wuweiwarrior May 1, 2010 at 7:59 am

@terrywhitetechblog Wow. I just read your update. That is SERIOUSLY cool news. Thanks! I don’t have a Nikon DSLR, but I do have a Canon T2i DSLR….so I’m guessing theres a good chance that 720p video will transfer from it too.

wuweiwarrior May 1, 2010 at 8:15 am

Oh cool thanks. Yeah, I guess that’d be too good to be true. lol. But it’s cool that you can transfer RAW photos so easily. Thats awesome. I also saw some other videos where the ipod nano(5G) and iphone can transfer video over to the ipad. It’s not HD…but while on the road that’ll be nice. I hope Apple releases a “lite” version of iLife(imovie and iwebb) so you can edit basic video while traveling, but I have the feeling that may not happen this year. Thanks again. Peace.

@wuweiwarrior UPDATE: I just tried importing video (720p format) from my Nikon D5000 and it imported AND played back on the iPad. Since every camera uses something different in terms of codecs, this is going to be hit or miss.

terrywhitetechblog May 1, 2010 at 8:46 am

@wuweiwarrior Thanks! As far as video goes, it imports but is not playable on the iPad. At least not the video from my Kodak Zi8. This is not surprising since the iPad (iPhone, etc.) is very particular about the video formats that it can play natively.

wuweiwarrior May 1, 2010 at 9:00 am

Hey Terry. Fantastic review! I was wondering, what about video? Can you hook a FLIP video camera up to the usb connector and transfer HD video clips to the ipad? Or HD video from a DSLR via the SD or USB connector? And if so, are there any restrictions? Can it even do HD video? And if so, is it limited to 720p HD video? Or can it transfer full 1080p clips? The flip can’t do 1080p, but a DSLR and other cams can. Thanks man. Peace.

Wouldn’t it be possible to use the Ipad for tethered shooting? connecting your camera to the Ipad and use a program that automatically shows the last made photo and even the entire collection of photo’s you are making when using the camera? Very handy laptop replacement for thethered shooting if possible ;-)

It sucks that you can’t sink an iPod or something with an iPad

roshanzavery May 1, 2010 at 11:46 am

Can the iPad recognise faces after import?

formattester6 May 1, 2010 at 12:14 pm
